Personal Background
Francesco Tonelli was born in Italy and was raised in Milan. He has a great fascination with food which led him to become a professor of culinary arts at The Culinary Institute of America and a R&D chef and food stylist at the La Cucina Italiana in Milan. He wanted to take his cooking and presentation of his food masterpieces to a new level so he chose photography. wWith photography you can present your work anyway you want and you can share it with the world via online blogs and websites.
Francesco has a unique way of taking his pictures. He can make a boring piece of lettuce turn into a reality check, or an amazing display of color. He has simple backgrounds that make the main part of the picture really pop and look great. A photographer that his work looks similar to is Vicky Wasik. They both share the simple blurry background with the crisp clear food subject residing on one of the sides or corners. They both focus on details such as composition, lighting and style to make their images look great.
This artist's ideas for his work were not for fame or glory but simply as a way for him and his student's to share their great culinary masterpieces with others. He also used it as another way to express his cooking, so that the customer would not only taste and smell his masterpieces but could also see the as well. This opens up a world of possibilities for potential customers at his restaurants and encourages others to come to his school to learn how to cook because a picture speaks a thousand words.
This photographer has influenced my work in many ways. His simple pictures of food with their blurry quiet backgrounds helped me see the benefits of not needing important information in the background. The way he puts the subject on a corner or a side and leaves empty space opposite has also inspired me. This artist has taught me to see the beauty in the simplicity of things, and appreciate things for just how they are. Things don't have to be complicated or abstract to be beautiful or nice to view in photographs, sometimes a simple picture of an avocado can be a masterpiece worthy of being placed in a museum along with other great works.

Compare and Contrast
This Image shows some striking similarity to the one on the right as both the images have avocados and black backgrounds. The backgrounds are nice however the white floor on the left picture is a striking opposite to the image on the right. The avocado on the left is a bit over ripe, something I wish didn't happen, and this is very noticeable in the image. The images both display the usage of space and perspective as the avocado is only partially visible and going of the right side leaving the left empty.

Compare and Contrast
The image on the left shows a slight similarity to the image on the right. The asparagus both come into view from the bottom and are a relatively healthy vegetable color. The asparagus both are placed o a white background and kind of fan out from the bottom. Some differences in the pictures are that the picture on the right has a cleaner whiter background. Also the asparagus is a solid green color where the on on the left is a dark green brown color. These images both show the same technique idea where the image emerges from the bottom of the picture and ends in the middle. These two images are truly remarkable.

Compare and Contrast
The Image on the right and the image on the left show slight similarities. These are both are pictures of lettuce from a close up with light shining through the partially see through leaves. The image on the right has bit more healthy piece of lettuce than the one on the left but thats ok. The Image on the right is a bit lighter in color than the one on the left because the lettuce is of a different kind. The images both show the same techniques as the whole picture is taken up by a single piece of lettuce and the light is shining through making the lettuce have a sort of glow.

ARTIST STATEMENT
These photos were all taken on a sunny afternoon as the sun was going down. I had to go to the store to get the vegetables for the pictures and that was kind of fun. The fruits and vegetables in Plum Market were really cool to look at as they were displayed really well. The avocado I bought was a little over ripe and the lettuce was a different kind than the one that i had to compare to was but everything looked ok. Overall this trimester has been fun and I have learned a lot about photography, taking photos, and using photoshop. thank you for teaching me the techniques and being a great teacher. This is all for now. Cya Later.
