Michigan Man
In Whitmore Lake there are a lot of weird people and houses. This one is owned by a crazy Michigan football fan who took it upon himself years ago to paint his house blue. Sadly his paint has started peeling off and it now looks a bit sad and spooky. His house can be seen year round with crazy decorations, from Michigan lawn gnomes in the summer, to a crazy maze and blue wreath in the winter. People like this are what makes Whitmore lake the crazy place it is now
The White House (Sorta)
Another classic house in Whitmore lake that has fallen victim to time. Back in the day the small town used to be a big tourist attraction with a dance hall, train station, bowling alley, and cottages set on the lake. The big white house with the wrap around porch used to be the biggest residential house in the town. Sadly now the house has fallen apart, just like everything else. I took this picture to capture the beauty Whitmore lake used to have a long time ago.
Fire!
The old fire station in Whitmore lake is an iconic building. Many fundraisers are held there on holidays by the Kawaians club of Whitmore lake. They do anything from christmas tree sales to the fourth of July chicken barbecue, and 5k. A long time ago when Whitmore lake used to a tourist town the fire station used t house the firemen and firetrucks. Now with the new township building housing all of that, the station isn't being used. The people of whitmore lake like to cherish their town's history so many of the old iconic buildings are still used.
Polly Market
One of the few shops in whitmore lake that is still in working order, polly market is the local market that sells a bit of everything. They are one of the shops that displays their sales by a shelf with paper and sharpie price tags stuck on a display item with tape. They don't use a news paper or TV adds. Instead they rely on the small town word or mouth news. Polly Market is the place where fishermen stop to buy their early morning snacks, and where old men go to buy their beer. Kids love buying candy and oatmeal creme pies there and I enjoy their wide variety of ice cream.
The House Behind it All
The township building is the main building in Whitmore lake where everything is held. Voting, housing for the police and firemen, township offices, meetings and taxes are paid, held and housed there. The new brick building is where everything in Whitmore lake happens and everyone loves the classiness of its great architecture.
